Slow Dance – Poem by David L. Weatherford

Slow Dance – Poem by David L. Weatherford

Today I want to share with you a poem and the reason is to do with my recent holiday in Thailand which was a great experience.

It was my first visit there and everything was new to me. I found myself interested in observing my surroundings and people around me with curiosity. And in the process, my mind stopped focusing on the past or the future. Instead, I spent more time enjoying each moment. And I felt relaxed and happy!

Now I’m back to my familiar surroundings and back to my job as a financial adviser. While my job is to help people deal with money worries and plan for the future, it’s important to remind ourselves that we should be in the present more and enjoy each moment. That’s the path to happiness according to Buddha as happiness is not a destination but a state of mind.

Here is the poem Slow Dance by David L. Weatherford. Hope you like it!

Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-round?

Or listened to the rain
Slapping the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down
Don’t dance so fast.

Time is short.
The music won’t last.

Do you run through each day
On the fly?

When you ask: How are you?
Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done,
Do you lie in your bed

With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?

You’d better slow down.
Don’t dance so fast.

Time is short.
The music won’t last.

Ever told your child,
We’ll do it tomorrow?

And in your haste,
Not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die

Cause you never had time
To call and say, “Hi”?

You’d better slow down
Don’t dance so fast.

Time is short.
The music won’t last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through the day,
It is like an unopened gift thrown away.

Life is not a race.
Do take it slower.

Hear the music
Before the song is over.
