Why I stopped watching the news

June 23, 20251 min read

This might be a little controversial, but I’ve been skipping the evening news for a long time. On the odd occasion when I tune in, I’m reassured that I haven’t missed much and why skipping it is good for my mental state.

Watching the news, it’s easy to feel the world’s on a downward spiral, making the thought of investing even more daunting.

How do we reconcile the dire headlines with the patience and optimism required for long-term investing?

Daily news is often just noise when it comes to the bigger financial picture. The markets move on deeper currents, shaped by long-term trends, not the storm of the day.

I've found that staying away from the minute-by-minute updates allows me to focus more on what really matters—my investment goals. It helps me stick to a plan without second-guessing my choices every time the wind blows.
