The highlight of our trip wasn’t what I expected…
We did all the “fun” stuff… but the moment that stuck with me came when we stopped doing anything.
We just got back from a short family trip to the Central Coast.
We packed in a few fun things in the first couple of days — tree top zipline, a circus show, exploring a Japanese garden, visiting local markets.
All great. All fun.
But the part that really stuck with me came on the last day, just before we headed home.
That morning we went for a coastal walk. It was beautiful — I slowed down and really took in the view, knowing we’re heading home soon and there’s no rush to be anywhere else.
Later at the beach, the kids were playing with the waves while my wife and I sat on a log, just watching them — and feeling a bit envious of their carefree joy and innocence.
It wasn’t a big moment. But it was the highlight of the trip for me.
I felt truly joyful in that moment.
And it made me realise — it’s not always about what you do on a trip.
It’s the state you’re in. The space you give yourself to enjoy it.
When was the last time you felt truly present — not doing, just being?
