If this year didn’t go to plan…
There’s a saying I finally understood this year:
“We overestimate what we can do in one year, and underestimate what we can do in five.”
Looking back on 2025, I realised how true that is.
At the start of the year, I had a long list of things I thought I’d get done.
But life happened, priorities shifted, and a bunch of those plans didn’t unfold the way I imagined.
And honestly… that felt a bit deflating.
But here’s what I almost missed:
Even though the year didn’t look like my original plan,
I did move in the right direction.
I got clearer about what I’m trying to build.
I improved the way I manage my time and priorities.
And I made decisions that set up the next chapter of my work and life.
Progress is funny — you rarely feel it while it’s happening.
Most of it builds quietly in the background.
Just like investing, the big results don’t show up in one impressive year…
they show up when you stick with the right approach long enough for compounding to kick in.
So if you’re looking at your year and thinking,
“I should’ve done more,”
remember this:
A single year is just one snapshot.
The real change happens over a longer run.
You’re probably further ahead than you think.
What’s one thing you quietly made progress on this year?
