Going faster can actually slow things down
It’s easy to want things to happen faster.
Better results, higher returns, getting there sooner.
But over time, I’ve noticed it doesn’t really work that way.
If you look at nature, nothing does.
A seed doesn’t grow into a tree in a few days.
It just does what it’s meant to do, consistently, over time.
And eventually it becomes something solid.
Investing feels similar to me.
I often see people go after higher returns by taking on more risk.
And sometimes it works, at least for a while.
That’s usually where the problem starts.
Because when things go the other way, the impact is much bigger.
And once you lose a meaningful amount of capital, it’s harder to stay in the game.
And if you’re not in the game, you don’t benefit from compounding.
I’ve found it’s less about how fast you can go,
and more about how long you can stay in the game.
It makes me wonder how often we trade staying power for speed.
